Thanks for all the weather info. But I wanted to talk about a new phenomenon I have noted in Big Sur. Since the Basin and Chalk, many residents have gotten to know fire and emergency responders well. This has lead to something interesting.
When a resident sees a problem, they aren't calling 911. Instead they call the nearest emergency responder such as a CHP officer or fireman personally.
Why is this bad? Well, 911 works to provide a single source of information for agencies including Sheriff, Fire, US Forest Service, ambulance, etc. When you call, the information is carefully recorded and PAGED INSTANTLY to multiple agencies that may need to respond.
If the resident does not call 911, they only delay or misdirect response.
Example: a resident noted a smoke plume on Pfieffer Ridge, but instead of calling 911, he attempted to firefighters he KNEW by phone. After almost 30 minutes, he finally talked to a freind who activated the emergency response system: 911.
If he had called 911, the call would have been PAGED INSTANTLY to Big Sur Fire, US Forest Service and CalFire.
Please, remind people, if you have an EMERGENCY CALL 911. It works and it puts the vital information in the hands of emergency responders who are ready to help.

Lastnight (Monday) on KION news they said that possibly snow on Sunday dow to the 2000ft level. Kate i'm not sure you sit that high up on your mountain, but if you do don't be surprised if you look out Sunday morning on a White Christmas. :)
I was out at the Salinas courthouse yesterday for jury duty. I wasn't chosen and won't be called again for another 2yrs or so. Thank goodness because the chairs were awful! LOL
