Took a drive today, and had brunch with some of the Ladies of the Sur. Here are some of the things I found along my way:
Finally made it to near the end of my road — I was calling it the slippery war zone, before this point, but look at that view!
Then there was the “stop here on this line” stoplight at Rain Rocks. Sure, stop right there, and almost get plowed over, literally, by Cal-Trans. It’s okay, I needed a new bumper anyway!

… and flowers on the table … must be brunch at Deetjen’s!
A shot of Big Sur River, where it is cutting the bank at a turn, not too far from Highway One. I’m no engineer, but this looks like a great place for some big, BIG, B-I-G rocks.
I’m going back to photograph this in the sunshine.

My comments here:
1. Wow again! What an enchanting view of Cone Peak. There was a similar view looking up Carmel Valley...the Santa Lucias are LOADED with snow!
2. Looks like that CALTRANS truck was Richard or Phil...and instrad of a fender dent, you will get a wave and a smile. Perhaps even a rendition of "Jingle Bells" with his truck horn. I even got an escort one morning with Richard blasting away the boulders in front of me with his blade. What red carpet service!

3. Yes BIIIGGG rocks into those undercuts! There is a good supply of such around Big Creek and Pitkins...A little transfer and a precision dump both there and at Alder Creek could do wonders. Since the dumb environmental laws preclude pushing spare boulders and fill over the side into the ocean...where they would have gone anyway before there was a HWY1, maybe all that extra material will find a home in those gaps. Just an idea,
Love those pictures of the "cone peak" ( I read that in the comment above, lol, as I've never been there except through your photos. The creek photo is super. Look at all the texture you caught in that one! Beautiful.
