Weather & Road Reports, 4/5/10

Noon – patchy sunshine/clouds, but very cold, only 40 degrees.

10:00 am – rain and hail failing at the moment – heavily! Oh, my, must get out soon to start gennie and empty rain gauge!

Nothing regarding the rock and mud slide this am, and no reader reports, so assuming the highway is open. Received .25 inches yesterday afternoon, and 2 inches last night, for a season total of 61.75 inches.

  1. Hi Kate,
    I thought that you might find this link of interest;
    http://www.cocorahs.org/Maps/ViewMap.aspx
    It is for CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network) which a national group of people who report daily their precipitation amounts. The link is for the daily precipitation map, it automatically shows up as CA when I go to it, but that may be because I am logged on. So it may show national map, but one can click a couple of times to bring up a map of Monterey county. This is pretty interesting as there are huge differences in the amounts received for any particular storm. I received 2.27 inches in the 24 hours ending at 7 am this morning, while folks in the Coastlands got less than an 1.5″ You would be a great resource to add to reporting network, the only requirements are to get a standardized rain gauge available through the site and to do the online training, which is very fast.

    My station is the one just north of Pt. Sur. Cheers,
    Scott
