  1. so the Jade Festival will still be on then? And also does this mean to say Highway One both ways will be closed, how can folks get through? Sorry about that, dumb question but since I don’t live there yet…

  2. There was never any question about whether the 21st annual Jade Festival would go on or not. It is ON! As to how people get through – they cannot, for 10 hours a night for ten periods of 2-5 days each, from Oct 8th thru approximately the end of January. At this point, awaiting a survey by Big Sur residents and business owners, we don’t know if this closure will be from 7 pm to 5 am, 8 pm to 6 am (the original plan) or 9 pm to 7am or finally, 10 pm to 8 am. A significant issue is getting the kids to school in time. That would probably negate the later time frames. Will post once I know what the local community voted for and what Cal Trans decided.

  3. Maybe I wasn’t clear … A “hard closure” is both directions. Those of us who have dealt with this for years, know what it means, but others from out of the area don’t. I aplogize.

  4. Happy to have one less thing to worry about with the road closing after the Jade Festival!! I’ll take it as an omen to mean it’ll be a good festival 🙂 Lisa

  5. Do we have any more info re: days/timing of road closures? Is there somewhere on your site (or even Caltrans) that routinely posts or will post this information. If so would you post the appropriate URL? Thank you so very much!!! Anne

  6. We won’t know the exact days of the closure until the week before, and we won’t know the number of consecutive days until they start drilling and find out what they are up against. At this juncture it looks as if the closures will be rom 9 pm to 7 am, Sunday through Thursday, but that will be finalized at a meeting next week.

We have been told to expect overnight closures most Sundays through Thursdays from Oct 8 through the end of January, of course, this could change based on the weather.

I will be posting each closure as they are announced, right on my front page.

  7. Hey, Kate. Thanks so much for doing this public service. I’m trying to follow the thread here and just to make sure I understand… Are ALL hard closures going to be overnight and NEVER during the daytime hours after 7am and before 9pm?

  8. A “hard closure” means no one gets through, north or south. These hard closures will only be overnight on Sundays-Thursday, probably 9 pm to 7 am, but the exact 10 hour time frame is being decided next week. They are not allowed on Friday and Saturday nights, or holidays. During the day, it is one lane, controlled traffic, with delays. These delays are supposed to only be for 10 mins. But I heard that today the delays were up to 1/2 hour, so plan accordingly.
