Monterey County firefighters will participate June 17, 19 and 21 at Fort Hunter Liggett to learn how to fight wildland fires – and at the same time help the Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department with control burns.
The Monterey County Fire Training Officers Association, in conjunction with the Fort Hunter Liggett Fire Department, will host this year’s wildland firefighting training exercises for local fire agencies.
The training exercises are expected to draw more than 100 firefighters from several fire agencies in Monterey County.
The Monterey County Fire Training Officers Association offers the training exercises at no cost to local fire agencies.

Normally mid June would be okay on the fort grounds but this is not a normal June. It's far too dry to be playing with fire. I know they set these up way in advance but this year it should be postponed.

Correct me if I am wrong Kate but wasn't the Indians Fire a control burn escape?
No. I looked it up and it was an escaped campfire in Arroyo Seco. Indians burned from June 8- July 10, 2008, burned 81,378 acres, and joined the Basin Fire on July 7th, 2008 according to firefighter blog. The Basin and Indians combined was the third largest wildfire in California's history. On June 11th, there was an entrapment of four firefighters, 3 were burned, and one was hospitalized for a week.
