Mission Fire – FHL

1:22 pm – “@CalFireNews: #MissionFire made many rapid runs in north on east facing aspect with multiple spotting. Threat to private residences #CaFire”

12:45 – Monterey County Type 3 Strike Team en route to Mission Fire.

11:45 – just checked WildCAD, LPF, and they are reporting 4500 acres.

11:00 am – It is quite smoky over here. In fact, i can barely see Cone Peak. I have been trying to get updates on this fire, but having trouble. FHL doesn’t report publicly, like other agencies, so it is difficult. Do have a call out I’m waiting on, and will update when I hear.

FIRE UPDATE: Fort Hunter Liggett firefighters and their mutual aid partners continue fighting a wildland fire in the northern part of the training area near Mission Creek Road and Milpitas Road.

As of 3:30 p.m. Friday, the footprint remains at 4,500 acres. Containment is about 55 percent containment and back burns are complete. Firefighters, including mutual aid from the U.S. Forest Service and CalFire and two multi-jurisdiction strike teams, have been fighting the fire since late morning Thursday and through the night. Mop-up operations continue into tonight.

According to Charles Walker, director of Emergency Services, there is no threat to the public or residents of the installation. Del Venturi and Nacimiento-Fergusson roads, used by the public to reach Highway 1 at the coast and Forest Service land northeast of Fort Hunter Liggett, remain open. Upper Milpitas Road is closed to traffic.
