Noon update – yay! Finally got water and having my first cup of coffee, as well as a hot bath! Tonight, before I go to bed, I will fill up the tub with water, fill the dog bowl inside, fill the tea pot with water for coffee, and let a faucet drip all night long. How many gallons of precious water will that take?

It has regularly been down in the mid-twentys at night, and last night, with the wind chill factor, it was 12! The dog water dish is frozen solid – 3-4″ worth! My pipes are frozen, so no water for the dogs or for my coffee this am. I am hoping they did not burst – I have all copper – and will thaw out this am to bring me water again. It was 49 degrees inside, when I built the fire on top of last night’s coals. I hope you all are staying warmer than I am!

  • It's hit 19º here several nights. It seems I remember seeing it at 12º one night. Wish I had your fancy gizmo so I could tell for sure! :D

    • Sometimes I wish I didn't have it! Don't want to know what the wind chill factor is! Could really use a cup of coffee!

      • Hope things thaw soon! Wish I could send you a cup! I hear it's supposed to start warming up some in the next days.

    • Can't wrap the pipes ... Can't get to them! Did ask the plumbers to insulate them when installed, but dont think they did! Will leave the faucet dripping, once they thaw!

  • Exactly. Learned that in Brooklyn years ago, leave the small drizzle coming out of the pipes into sink, and the movement will prevent a freeze up. CV has had the longest cold run I can remember, a good week of overnight freezes. It was warmer in Anchorage, Alaska this morning. Sunny and warm by midday. Remains the diff between the north easters and CA. Bad for the garden. Depressing. Can't wait for a hot January. Stay warm, Kate.

  • Gosh I was cautioned about , to not put LCD puter screens into aircraft check in luggage, because the freezing temps in the cargo hold , will do the pixels damage .
So what about the LCD touch screens on our " in car" GPS units ? Heated garage , anyone ?
Warm and sunny here in Singapore,,,, hoping next year I won't be able to say that !
    Happy Holidays
