Highway One blocked?

UPDATE – I drove through sometime between 6:15-6:30 and one lane was open with traffic control. It was actually just across from the Hawthorne Gallery. I tried to get a photograph, but they signaled me through before I could get my camera out. Amazing to see a 37′ fifth wheel laid out on its side like that. Kudos to our BSVFB and LPF who were the ones handling this mess. It had been almost three hours by the time I went through. We are lucky to have such an incredible local response, as I did not see any MCSO or CHP.

AS OF 8:30 pm, both lanes were open, with a mess left for Cal Trans in the morning.

There was another one just north of Lucia, but it did not block the road. What a drive home!

Local word has it, although it is not showing up on CHP, yet, that the road is blocked at HML due to an overturned RV. I AM HEADED TO RI to wait it out.

  1. Love all the mysterious commando short hand, but my favorite by far is 3:27 PM 1 [1] RV ON ITS SIDE BLKING SB, which frankly sounds like code for an annoyed curse.
    I hope everyone’s okay. Don’t see any calls for ambulance.

  2. I just returned from a wonderful day down the coast. There is an overturned 5th wheeler right at the end of the Nepenthe turnout headed south. The truck somehow is upright but the 5th wheeler is on it’s side in the southbound lane. There was another smaller car involved in the accident. The road is Not blocked because personnel are allowing one lane through at a time. I don’t know what caused the accident, but saw it with my own eyes. I have no idea how they will get that 5th wheeler off the road except to drag it back into the large Nepenthe turnout. There could have been injuries in the smaller car, it was pretty beat up. That is such a dangerous curve when people try to dart across without visibility to get over to Nepenthe. Very sad. I’m sure the 5th wheeler is totalled.

  4. I just read the whole article above and see that the 5th wheeler fell on the Acura which was parked in the Nepenthe turnout. I hope that means no one was in the parked Acura. It was a little squished.

  6. I drove thru this mess. As far as I could tell, only the 5th wheel and the Accura hurt … Totaled, I suspect. Bless the BSVFB and LPF who handled all. Love you guys and gals!

  8. Thanks for the update Kate – you even managed to post a photo. Sounds like you had a very exciting drive home, what was it with rv drivers yesterday? The highway was extremely busy.
