Midnight … Ended up with 2.17″ for Halloween. Nice. Hopefully we will get more on Saturday. Enjoy.
4:30 pm – The storm front hit here at 3:25 pm, when the rain rate per hour reached 1.47″/hour. We have received .41″ so far today, and the rain rate per hour has been primarily between 1/2″ and 1 and 1/2 inch for the last hour.
I am SO glad I decided to take a pass on going out today … my ability to get home, of some concern to me. I have been able to enjoy the sound of this first real rain of the season, the company of my dogs, hot chocolate, and soon, a fire in the wood stove. The simple pleasures of living in the wilds of Big Sur …they nourish me .
Oops, just hit over 3 and 1/2″ per hour rain rate. Yeehaw!
this sounds utterly heavenly Kate, this is what it’s all about!
Enjoy Kate. Substantial rain here at the mouth of the Carmel Valley over the past 2 hours. Loving it.
It just began out Santa Rosa Creek Rd about 5. Our first rain in many, many months. What a joy…..
Sublime news – 1/2 ” per hour should, hopefully, be largely absorbed.
Sterling, at 2:30 am, we are now up to almost 3″ for the storm. One friend sent me a couple photos of the rocks on the road, but that was very early in the life of this storm. Should be lots of fun at dawn! At one point, the rain rate was 4 and 1/2″ per hour. It started back up at 2 am at a rate of 2.82″/hr. Quiet for the moment, so time to get back to sleep!

Thanks Kate. 4.5″ per hour is like the old days, probably a bit too high a rate after all these dust bowl years, but far better than the alternative. And of course, to rewrite an old French saying: “A storm without rocks on the road isn’t a Big Sur storm.” ZZZZZZZZZZZZ well.
There was a sign saying Pfeiffer Beach Zclosed. Is that due to fears of slides from The Ridge? Quite a soaking good rain I’d say! Glad you’re all safe & sound. Best, h & b
