Possible attempted abduction on Highway One

UPDATE: “A description of the perpetrator who attacked one of our [Esalen] staff members this past Friday and his vehicle is as follows: The vehicle is a silver-blue 1990’s Pathfinder. The attacker was male, with dark hair, medium complexion, approximately 6′ tall, his age was approximately 30’s-40’s, and was wearing a hoodie. It was recently reported that there was a similar incident this past February.”

ORIGINAL: “A woman was attacked by a man this morning while running. He grabbed the woman, who got away and then ran to his vehicle, a Silver Blue/grey Pathfinder, the lights were on. The Incident took place on HWY 1 South of Julia Pheifer Burns.”

This was sent to me  by a concerned local. I was asked to delay reporting until it became “public,” by which I mean the police had been able to respond and take their report. But it should serve as an awakening that with the increased amount of people now traveling our highway, increased criminality cannot be far behind. Be situationally aware at all times, as this woman obviously was.

  1. Thank you for reporting something so averse to tourism, Kate. This fine “Eliminate America’s borders” plan is letting in as many gangsters as desperate Guatamalian 8 year olds (the latter being farmed out indiscriminately to uncles in Tulsa they never heard of). The brand new AJ replacing Holder was asked about it. Her reply was that anyone inside the USA is a legal citizen and won’t be prosecuted. Of course the referenced Highway 1 kidnapper above coulda been a refugee from Hollywood or Mount Airy. But I’d bet a cookie we’ll never see the description.

  2. That is very disturbing to hear. I live right there and it concerns me that these people are right here in my front yard. I do not understand why someone would want to with-hold this information since it reduces the chances of ever finding this person.

  3. A man grabs a woman beside the road in Big Sur and suddenly it’s all about immigration policy? Really? That seems like quite a leap. I’m guessing a lot more sexual assaults and a lot more crimes in general, especially in places like Big Sur, are getting committed by good old native born Americans than by immigrants. I also think it’s safe to say that no AJ, AJ nominee, or Assistant AJ has ever said, or ever will say, that “anyone inside the US is a legal citizen.”

  4. Why would a possible abductee run towards the Perp’s Vehicle? This “story” uh, makes no sense at all, unless the runner was an undercover cop or really macho; the whole time i lived in Sur (2000-2010) i saw so much crime, unreported; i maintained-& still do; if you are on Highway One La ti da, have a weapon or Plan to help, just in case…dont become a statistic…Stay aware & safe for yorself & Othes, too.

  5. Rosie, the perp ran toward the vehicle, not the gal. I agree … Have a plan. It can get crazy Anywhere.
