ONE-DAY EMERGENCY GUARDRAIL REPAIR ON SOUTHBOUND HIGHWAY 1 SOUTH OF PITKINS/RAIN ROCKS TOMORROW

MONTEREY COUNTY (BIG SUR COAST) – An emergency one-day guardrail repair project on Highway 1 just south of the Pitkins Curve Rockshed at Rain Rocks (mile marker 21-22) will take place tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 23, Caltrans officials announced.
Roadwork will consist of closing the southbound lane and work hours are from 8 am to 3:30 pm under one-way traffic control with flaggers. There will be an Electronic Message Sign to alert motorists of this closure. Motorists and bicyclists can expect a delay not to exceed 15 minutes.

The purpose of this emergency project is to repair 100 feet of damaged guardrail which was recently hit. Roadwork is necessary to ensure all of the maintenance needs of the coast highway area are met.

NOTE: Access to businesses will remain open via Highway 1.

Our Willow Spring Maintenance, Santa Maria Guardrail and Maintenance Design crews will work collaboratively to ensure all roadwork is done by 3:30 pm.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.

    • I have heard about a number of accidents in the general area, including one local, but I think hers was closer to Lucia. I don't,specifically remember this one. Maybe someone else does.
