Appointed appellate counsel for indigent defendants (retired.) I have lived in Big Sur since 1984, first on the north coast, and on the South Coast since 1989.

  • When I drove up here this morning, there was an active slide just north of Sea View Ranch (south of Gorda) that required north bound traffic to use the south bound lane to avoid the boulders in the north bound lane. Cal trans was on site, waiting for traffic to clear before scraping the road. Fortunately, there's a very wide shoulder on the ocean side of the highway at that spot so there was plenty of room for Cal Trans and traffic to pass. I was also able to get a good view of the mountainside above the road to spot anything on the move before I passed below it.
