Clare Long, Public Information Officer for the US Forest Service, will be available to the public at the Big Sur Station (Multi-Agency Facility) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 and Friday, July 29.
She will provide updates and information on the Soberanes Fire. We will also have large scale maps displayed at the station of the impact of the fire and operations to contain it.

Kate– where are some of the sites that we can donate to help some of the victims of this awful tragedy and support the people that are helping to save their homes?

They are local, all $$ go directly to victims. They are the best, and they have experience at this.

Kate,
You notice the mandatory evacuation orders for White Rock are in red but the advisory is still at the bottom. Someone forget to edit the advisory out?

URGENT from Gabriela Forte Please please call me at 4028111 urgently.
NO ONE can deliver food to the firefighters. The calfire ones at toro park and such CANNOT accept ANY food or donations and the volunteer brigades don’t need absolutely anything at the moment, they are fully stocked and INCREdIBLY busy as the fire got worse. They do not have time to even deal with any of this, not to mention the road is closed to them so there’s absolutely no way to deliver. On top of that, ALL food must be made by professional chefs in a commercial kitchen ONLY (that’s why I am personally doing) and I know for a fact that although the intention is great, and much appreciated, this is hurting more than helping at this moment. The logistics of delivery are impossible to deal with. They are asking people desperately NOT to go to big Sur, and for sure NOT to bring absolutely anything to deliver to them. PLEASE call me and I’m happy to explain further but please please do not collect ANYThING for them at the moment.

Thank you to aaron patch for pushing me to dig deeper. It sounds like there is more to this story, and I don’t know all of it, but it’s certainly not as clear cut as the original post. It sounds like Gabriela is mostly referring to the firefighters at Torro park having a hard time accepting donations. It sounds like midcoast is very busy, but is appreciating donations if they have time (but, of course, we need to get out if they’re way if they don’t have time). And, VERY IMPORTANTLY, it sounds like our local badasses are really needing and loving donations. I am so sorry if my misting caused confusion. It sounded legit and said “urgent” so I reposted.
This is what I posted before:
