Soberanes Fire, Day 64, 9/23/16

7:30 pm – for Jen Croft of the USFS for Air Quality: “As requested, we wanted to share the heads up that these favorable NNE winds will provide a great opportunity for the firing operations to resume along the SE corner tomorrow. Associated smoke should move off towards Tassajara and Big Sur. It might get a little smokey in the evening as the cooler temps settle smoke in the drainages, but these efforts are one step closer to the successful containment.”

Reminder – there is a community meeting at the Fire House in Arroyo Seco tomorrow, Sat the 24th at 6 pm.

On a personal note, I am leaving later this am for lunch in Big Sur Valley, which means I will be in and out of cell phone range (and thus Internet) until late afternoon. Looks like a gorgeous day for a drive here on the west side of the fire.

7:30 am – John Chesnut’s map:

7 am – we lost a little over 1,000 acres since the last IR map. Here is today’s;

The IAP still has the fire behavior and weather prediction discussions from Wed-Thurs.

  • This photo certainly says it all, have a lovely drive and lunch Kate.
    Anyone: I don't know if the community is seeing injured wildlife but I know of an organization that treats injured/orphaned wildlife in a wide area. It's Morgan Hill based, Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center. AKA as W.E.R.K., their website is http://www.werc-ca-org, email is werc@werc-ca.org. Their phone for rehab is (669) 253-8712, education is (669) 253-8713. They appear to do good work. Of course here in Santa Cruz, we have Native Animal Rescue, I'm not sure about others but I surely do worry about those critters, as well.

  • Hi BigSurKate, this is the Air Resource Advisor from Sobranes fire! Thanks for sharing our updates with your followers and posting pics of your view. As requested, we wanted to share the heads up that these favorable NNE winds will provide a great opportunity for the firing operations to resume along the SE corner tomorrow. Associated smoke should move off towards Tassajara and Big Sur. It might get a little smokey in the evening as the cooler temps settle smoke in the drainages, but these efforts are one step closer to the successful containment. We'd love to recruit you to share our smoke forecast if you're interested? Just let me know!

    • Absolutely. I will post part of this on the main post so more will see it, although I have been told that comments are really being read on this fire as people are sharing so much information with each other. I will email you.

  • Which firing operations for tomorrow is being referred to? Arroyo Seco 7 miles or Northern edge of Anastasia Cyn which runs East - West from Tassajara Rd to Carmel valley road?

  • Andrew, what are you implying with "Progress? Are you mocking it? I can say that I am progressively getting worn out by being on warning for months with a possible mandatory if firing ops take place on the Chews Ridge slop over into Anastasia canyon.

    Do you know which firing operations for tomorrow is being referred to in Jen Croft's post? Arroyo Seco 7 miles or Northern edge of Anastasia Cyn which runs East – West from Tassajara Rd to Carmel valley road?
