10 am – Brian just came back from checking this out and has this to say:

“Just came back from the fernwood slide on from the south. Multiple power lines down and a there was a car pushed off the road when it slid. Everyone is safe. I think this one will take quite awhile to clear.”

8 am – From Todd:

“Had a slip not far in from hoist has left less than six feet of road. Impassable at this time. This is where one of the retaining walls burnt out during the fire. ”

  1. Big Sur Station Rainfall
    Overnight (5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.) – .98 ”
    Storm Total – 8.5″
We are experiencing a much needed break from the rain and the river has started to recede down to 10′ from a high near 12′

  2. Hi Kate, fog & misty blues in the village- looking forward to a day without warning noises alerting me to the latest weather warnings.

  3. Kate, where is the final destination to these giant redwoods that have fallen on roadways? Caltrans has a lot of work on its hands this week.

  4. Do you expect Monterey County to announce a state of emergency declaration with FEMA assistance too?

  5. I would hope so, as will Santa Cruz which has been inundated, and SLO which has many, many road closures and mud slides. Can’t keep up with 3 counties, so focusing on Big Sur and Carmel Valley. Can’t really even keep up with Monterey. But just got notice Highway 17 just opened.

  7. No one can get to it to confirm, except from the north, and there is the emergency in CV wit the flooding, and I’ll bet they are overwhelmed.

  8. I wonder if incident 227 on the CHP site actually means BS State Park not JPB? The timing is right and the description sounds like what Brian reported above.

  9. Okay, Jeff, there are two mentioned, one at JPB and then #277 is at “Fern Canyon” but no MM given, I didn’t see
