Thanks for the ongoing updates. I just heard Monterey waves registered biggest in 30 some odd years, and over 30 feet. Haven’t had the chance to see yet but it must be something. We got a strong downpour around 1 pm today, some small hail, the sun’s fulsome in a blue sky right now.
Kate, If someone or something needed to be flown in or out, who would have the final say to let it land or take off within the Big Sur area?
No simple answer, but if a CHP helicopter, which is the standard, then the CHP. Now, Andrew, have I become your personal google??

You’re my Special Forces Big Sur insider for the novice over the hill onlooker… : )
The definitive answer, of course, is …
The pilot, as a friend points out.
Kate, I’ve been wanting to support your update efforts, linked is a updateable and webserved map for closure point status. Might help in “big picture” view of where the blocks are. We could add icons for the CV and Palo closures. http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/big-sur-closures_122609#10/35.9869/-121.4999
Thanks, JWC, we of course, have another one at Cow Cliff (Big Creek)

JWC: I love this map, very clear detail and sharp graphics.
Updated to include Cow Cliff viaduct slide
The link on the pinned post to the map page is busted (goes to wp-admin). Not sure what the permanent link is to the cool pdf maps of named points.
JWC look to the “pages” portion of my sidebar links. The very first page is *Maps

JWC, what is the source data for that map? It has greater detail than most topo maps I’ve seen of the area.
