  • Hallelujah, the mail made it to the south coast, but the Postmaster went around Nacimiento-Ferguson! He'll try to make it back north along the coast route. Waste Mgnmnt truck came thru the slides and made it. The efforts our services are making to take care of us are phenomenal. Thank you all for literally, going the extra mile to keep things as "normal" as possible under these conditions!!

  • Great, I was hoping to read CT had a commercial like tank that could remove most of these slides lickity spit, but, I gather no such monster truck or ATV exists.

  • Kate, that sun image is very comforting, but, what is the fate of that dead tree in the background?

    • Yup, it could. One of the many, many reasons why Mud Creek is a hard closure. There are a whole lot of things up that slide that can and will become projectiles at any time. Thus, the hard closure to everyone.

    • It has designated areas on the coast that need fill, they stack it by the side of the road in places, especially rock, OR they haul it off, if a contractor is doing the work has a place to haul it to as does Windsor in Cambria. Some people come to the drop sites looking for rock to use in retaining walls, etc.

  • Hi! Thanks so much for posting these updates - they are so helpful! Can I ask a "stupid" question? Not being from the area -- can someone tell me if non-residents are allowed to travel on HWY 1 between Paul's Slide and Mud Slide? We have a res at Treebones this weekend and are hoping to get there via Nacimiento-Ferguson Rd, but it will still require 7.8 mi. South on HWY 1 to MM11.

  • Logistics for Mud Creek workers - does CT have a mobile canteen? Do they sleep locally or commute?

  • Douglas, it is the Willow Springs crew who is working on Mud Creek and they have housing north of Gorda, so no need for mobile canteen. If a contractor is hired, it is often Windsor from Cambria and their workers can easily commute the relatively short distance. One flagger who loves working up here often commutes from Pismo area and loves the drive and the work and always has a smile on her face.
