***NEW INFORMATION, IMPORTANT INFO FOR LOCALS **

The roadway is not passable between Ragged Pt (SLO 72.87)and Dolan Pt (PM 29.70)

*LOCALS MAY TRAVEL BETWEEN DOLAN and SOUTH of PFEIFFER CYN BRIDGE (PM 45.5) AND AVOID CROSSING BRIDGE.

*BUSINESSES REMAIN OPEN*

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Our Maintenance, Geotech and Construction crews continue to work collaboratively and diligently, as much as safely possible in response to these rock/mudslides.

Another update will be provided around noontime
tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 12, or sooner if conditions change.

  • "The Bridge column has moved" are some pretty scary words to hear, especially when they refer to such a critical brdge!

    • I bet you never realized what a full time job this would be to keep that damn thing updated.

  • This map should win awards for its design and its ongoing management for local aid in Big Sur history/ current events.

  • thank you for your website, we visit your beautiful big sur often and are going to miss our camping this weekend.... but your page has been so helpful with real information on situation.
first time to your site, look forward to seeing more...

  • And they built the bridge because the hillside kept slipping and taking out the road. Wonder if any of the road still exists?

  • I want to point out that in '83 the N column of the Dolan creek bridge dropped cracking the deck surface. I don't remember them closing the bridge. They brought in many loads of riprap to shore up slipping pier, patched the cracked deck, put in a drain at the low spot and declared it OK. The deck repair and the dip are still plainly visible. I think Dolan bridge is much older than Pfeiffer cyn and they don't build them like they used to... actually, maybe they build them much better than they used to with modern seismic standards. I hope they can come up with a good fix. I haven't had sushi in almost four days.

    • Each bridge is different, and every soil and geology is different up and down the coast. Whether what worked at Dolan would work at Pfeiffer is anyone's guess, but hopefully, by this afternoon we will have the engineer's assessment.
