  1. Kate, what are the current conditions for all bridges on or near hwy 1? It’s strange to me there hasn’t been more inspections and reports to the public released.

  2. Spoke with an authority at the bridge at 5 pm and he indicated that he had heard that bridge movement sensor equipment had recorded bridge movement between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. (when cars had passed over the bridge…one at a time).

  3. I asked a Caltrans guy while at the Peiffer bridge that same question today (Andrew Scott). He said they have inspected all the bridges and they are fine. He claimed they would have been inspecting the Pfeiffer bridge on Monday anyway, but thanks to our woodsman it was found out 2 days sooner.

  4. The area from the old Post house to bridge is in massive evolution. A friend wrecked her car between below Post, road dropped 1 foot in houjrs. Maps show springs and faults along all watersheds. Friend saw saint elmos fire travel for a couple of minutes along faults, bouncing from watershed to watershed. This bridge is out for the long count.

  5. Yes, coincidentally, bridge inspections were set BEFORE Pfeiffer Canyon bridge was discovered by our wonderful local guy. All bridges from Ragged Point to Peiffer were inspected and are good. The ones north will be inspected in the next couple days.

  6. Grandpa Hettich used to say that you could core down 100 ft in that section (between Post Homestead and Loma Vista) of road and still find only asphalt.

  7. LOL, Jenny. It is like when the road in front of Gorda gave way one year. I think we found 13 different levels of asphalt. Highway One – the road built on air …
