Thanks to the CHP officer who escorted me to the slide to take this photo.  He said that Monterey County Public Works received the call at 7:30 am and they are en route. They are also concerned about the electrical pole in the second photo – condition to be determined by PG&E.  Photos taken at 10 am by lucasryancv.

And, Kate’s internet is still out.  I’ll post updates for her when they become available.

  1. Complete with landscaping, trees and shrubs. You’d think that nature has had enough of tourists. I just hope you good people are warm and dry enough to see this latest hit out. I’m sure most of you are used to the unusual and coping just fine, I hope so.

  2. Is there a number to call to find out when it’s cleared? The officer estimated that would be this afternoon but he didn’t have a number.

  3. I can hardly read your comments because of text being so dim. Could you switch to white or something better, please?

  4. Andrew, I’ve updated the post. Condition of the electrical line poles to be determined by PG&E.

  5. Thank you for getting that picture! Made it over Cachagua grade thinking I was in the clear only to get stopped there! Ahhh mother nature certainly is in charge.

  6. Just called-crews on site–“Jackie” kindly offered to call me when cleared. I’ll post that news.

  7. Thank you so much, Kate for the information you provide us with. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you some day. Big Sur is like a second home for me. I spend a lot of time there when I can. Esperanza Hernandez

  8. …Road closure update still doesn’t register latest road hazard… Helicopter flew by our place not caring to take a look at that slide on its way to Big Sur I suppose. OK, that was a quick check, now it’s turned around eyeballing the river and on its way toward Jack’s Peak.

  9. Drove 68 to Salinas yesterday (Monday 3/13)early afternoon. Roadwork appeared to be complete. Traffic flowing both sides of road. There were a bunch of truckers/workers picking up cones, equipment etc. Was an easy drive both directions!!
