FULL CLOSURE, HIGHWAY ONE – CRAB LAB TO RAGGED POINT, 2/20/17

Slide north of Hurricane Point covering both lanes, another near Soberanes Point. Trees and power lines down at Fernwood. Mud Creek is very active again, and then there are all those in between. Highway closed to ALL from Ragged Point to Fernwood earlier, but now extended to Crab Lab. Full Closure to everyone between.

Got word that Esalen is planning a massive evac of 60 by helicopter when there is a break in the weather. Cannot confirm as their land lines and Satellite Internet are both down.

  1. “Crab Lab” is a nickname for the Marine Pollution Studies Laboratory, a facility just north of the Granite Canyon bridge, and south of Soberanes Point.

  8. I was so tickled to hear it was cleared today, when County actually said it would be. Here is toasting the County Road Crew in San Ardo. I owe you one next time I see you. Thanks.

  9. Kate, More heavy rain is hitting the village now with strong gusty winds..

…Could it be possible to have your satellite installed on a tower anchored in the ground?

  10. Just drove from River Inn to Carmel.
Multiple slides on the road but you can drive around them. At the Crab Lab – they let you through going north. They are letting folks through going south if you are a resident of Palo…or probably anywhere north of Hurricane
Point. Subject to change, of course.

  11. Crab or ABlone?? Tx for keeping me informed…still miss Big Sur…even the hard times…. Bob Cross
