UPDATE: From CHP Spokesman, MC came to a complete stop at flagger, told him he was going to FHL and then accelerated rapidly and took off, hitting the flagger. See article here:

UPDATE; FROM THE BMW k1600 forum:

New Member Intro
Just saying hello…

Seeking a hit and run rider out here in Nor Cal who happened to be riding a newer white BMW k1600 and we’re pretty sure we know who he is at this point. We (local Law Enforcement) are pretty sure we know who he is and hope he does the right thing and turns himself in…

More info to follow…

Sunday – CORRECTION, IT WAS MONDAY – this bike ran through Mud Creek without stopping for the flagger, Arlene, who radioed ahead to Mark, the second flagger. Mark tried to stop him, but was run over for his troubles, and suffered a dislocated shoulder.  Someone (Mark?) got this photo of the motorcyclist. If you know him, tell him to do the right thing and turn himself in, or call CHP, yourself. He is probably from the area, not necessarily “local” to Big Sur, as this bike has been seen before going north near the Elephant Seals and Piedras Blancas, says a bike officiano friend who recognizes this bike. I will see Mark, the flagger, later this afternoon, and clarify and verify what I have been told. But for now, BOLO.

UPDATE: FLAGGERS AT ANOTHER CONSTRUCTION SITE IN SLO RECOGNIZED THIS BIKE ON TUESDAY WHERE THEY TRIED TO STOP HIM. HE THEN RAN THROUGH THAT SITE. ALSO SEEN IN AREA OF CURBAIL AND EL CAMINO REAL IN ATASCADERO AND POSSIBLY ON N-F AND FHL ON SUNDAY. A FEW PEOPLE IN THE BIKING COMMUNITY ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR HIM, TOO, BUT OTHERS ARE DEFENDING HIM.

  • Kate: I don't think this will help much. The posted photo from a smart phone is not big enough to allow any better resolution plus the perp is wearing dark glasses: White male. +/- 25? Sterling

  • HI Kate

I posted it on FB, and asked everyone to repost...

    Sent from my iPad.

    • yes, it is getting reposted on FB quite a bit. And Mark's company, Associated Traffic Safety is offering a reward of $1000.

  • You might also want to post up that pic and description (or link back to here) on bayarearidersforum.com. This is a very large and active web forum with several thousand Bay Area riders hanging out on it daily. There is a very good chance someone there would recognize this guy/bike.

  • Kate,

Unfortunate, but this should alert Caltrans and others monitoring the area that it should consider wearing personal web streaming video gear cameras like most CHP do nowadays. This behavior should not be tolerated against anyone. Punk stunt moves like this are dangerous and life threatning; I can't waiit to see this guy busted.

  • This guy should be easy to find. He is riding a GT version but has a topcase which means he added it later. A cursory call to the BMW shops nearby or to BMW themselves should yield results. A search by color should suffice. I added a topcase to my GT and had the keys matched which tipped me off when I saw the pic. Good hunting.

  • That's a big bike. The price tag of that is upwards of $20K. Not your average crotch rocket. This kind of changes the demographic of the person you are looking for.

I would say White Male, 40+, with an income of $75K+.

  • The comment the rider made was, "I'm going to Hunter Fort Liggett." I have received no information back from them, so he was most likely just out for a long ride around.

Also, this is a CHP case. Please contact us with any sightings. Thanks.

  • Looks to be someone who has returned to riding with a new jacket, gloves, & helmet and a $25K BMW K1600GT and a very bad attitude. He will be found - this picture tells much!
