PAUL’S SLIDE ROADWORK HAS CEASED DUE TO SLIDE ACTIVITY WHICH HAS INCREASED. THE ROADWAY WILL BE ASSESSED AT EACH SCHEDULED ACCESS TIME (SHOWN BELOW), BUT IF ROADWAY IS DEEMED UNSAFE, SUCH AS MATERIAL COMING DOWN, LOW VISIBILITY DUE TO EXCESSIVE FOG OR SLIDE IS BEING ACTIVE, LOCALS/DELIVERIES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED THROUGH. FOR EXAMPLE, FOR TODAY’S EVENING ACCESS, LOCAL RESIDENTS CAN LINE UP, BUT IF MATERIAL IS COMING ONTO THE ROADWAY OR PAUL’S SLIDE IS ACTIVE, LOCALS WILL NOT BE GRANTED ACCESS.

CALTRANS ANNOUNCES NEXT CONVOY TO PFEIFFER CANYON BRIDGE
MONTEREY COUNTY – Caltrans will continue the process of delivering construction equipment and materials to the site of the demolished Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge on State Route 1 via Nacimiento-Fergusson Road from US Highway 101 on Tuesday, May 23 and Thursday, May 25.
These convoys will be escorted by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and will include intermittent closures of Nacimiento-Fergusson Road on Tuesday, May 23 from 7:30 am to 3 pm and on Thursday, May 25 from 8 am until 7 pm. Motorists wishing to travel east/west in the morning must do so before the first convoy begins. On Thursday, motorists will encounter delays during the movement of these four convoys westbound from 8 am to 10 am and 2 pm to 4 pm and eastbound from 11 am to 1 pm and from 5 pm to 7 pm. All vehicles must not exceed 30 feet in length and a weight of 15 tons.
The Tuesday convoys will include asphalt and other materials in 10 trucks while the Thursday convoys will include the remaining 50% of the rock and sand necessary to create concrete abutments for the new bridge. Future convoys will transport two mobile batch plants, two concrete boom pump trucks, vacuum trucks and rebar cages. This equipment will be used to construct concrete abutments and overall construction of the new Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge (PM 45.52).
This seems to be implying that locals must mingle with the convoys in order to get through…no?
Mark, good lord only knows. Personally, I am avoiding NF on Tuesdays and Thursday. R has to go to town on Wed and return on Thursday through the mess. I said I would stay home, thank you.

I don’t care if I have to drive with the convoy on Naci, but if they are going to restrict access to locals at the predesignated times because they have deemed it unsafe but still let the convoys through, they better let the locals drive through with the convoys.
This whole process has been a joke if you ask me. Even on the days when the work ceased early, and I sat there watching all the workers clear the jobsite at 4pm, they still make you sit there until 7pm for the opening. There is very little consideration given to the needs of the people that live here.
Just came N thru Paul’s at the 7pm Tuesday night opening. The geology certainly looks angry. I think the workers are doing the best they can given the situation. A half-dozen people were controlling the traffic while watching for rocks uphill. A few days ago rocks were hitting the roadway as we passed. I am happy to have had the opportunity to get home via the highway rather than lug groceries up the Tap House Trail.
N-F road was moderately busy. Passed a couple dozen vehicles outbound. No big deal. Suggest everyone drive on the right side when they can….ya know…one neighbor was unclear on that rule.
we’re suppose to drive NF to Treebones on Thurs. Is this a good idea? I don’t want to be stuck on the road esp with small kid. local advice appreciated.
Becky, it will probably take longer than planned as the convoys are 8-10, 11-1, 2-4, and 5-7. Two are WB and 2 are EB. You can try to slip through during the hour intervals when no convoys are expected, BUT, the trip is well over an hour, more like 1 and 1/2, so you are likely to have to pull over and wait for it to pass. Remember to stay on your side of the road and be careful around the turns, as the road is only about 1 and 1/2 lanes wide in spots, and very unforgiving.
has anyone been bounced at Pauls since Mondays noon closure or are they honoring the stated pass-through times so far?
and does anyone know if it’s standard practice for contracts by CalTrans to have bonus if done early clauses? I ask as it sure feels and looks like there is very little time pressure or sense of urgency on this job.
From the reports I have received, the noon windows have been honored. As far as I know, there have been early bonus clauses in the past, don’t know specifically about these projects, however.
