Accident on Nacimiento, 10/2/17

Rock Knocker came upon an accident about a mile (?) east of Nacimiento Campground this afternoon around 3 pm. A 10 yard going east cut the corner badly on a blind curve. Guess what he saw as he came around it? A little car, which he proceeded to hit full on. Don’t know re injuries, but the rig was so far over, everyone was able to get by on his right hand side. Only 10 ft of brake skids by the truck visible.

And THAT is why it is no necessary to drive slowly and carefully and completely over in your own lane. Even that may not have prevented this one.

  1. Thank you so much ch for your reporting. That road is dangerous. Should a big rig be on that road? Can’t wait for the bridge to be open.

Any firm date for residents before the public gets in?

  2. No injuries, according to Gordon who came upon it. Just hold up time to clean up the mess.

  3. Kate,

Is there any guard rails on this road? They should have blindspot mirrors & speed bumps out there too! Plus, there is no excuse for not having a built in wifi hotspot inside traffic signs or signals. No one should have a stranded feeling going anywhere in this high traffic digital time! CalTrans & #MoCo need to do something about this!

  4. No guard rails. The area where the accident happened is relatively flat, just very curvy. There are no traffic signs or signals from 1 to the green bridge on FHL, and no cell service, so absent a satellite, no way to get wifi.

  5. Kate,

Could an emergency highway call phone box work in this area? Why is this not an essential need for discussion with residents & visitors?

  6. Just a matter of time. Those ten wheelers drive as if they are the only ones on the road. I’ve witnessed them cutting corners on numerous occasions and have saluted them accordingly.

  7. That same truck almost plowed me over about 15 minutes prior to this accident. And that was not my first run in with that truck. There were a couple incidents before this with that particular truck. He barreled up and down Naci like he was the only one on the road. He drove the same through Paul’s Slide. It is unfortunate that this happened but hopefully this guy had an ego check and had severe consequences to pay.

  8. Fortunately for me, he pulled over a couple of miles beforehand to let me pass but I heard that one as it happened, though well behind me. I thought it was an SUV or pickup headed towards the dump truck, not a small car. No matter what, hope all are ok – that was a big-ass truck

  9. Right, the dump truck was yellow, I was referring to the other vehicle involved.
