101 Closed indefinitely, 1/10/18

From a variety of media outlets:  Highway 101 is closed indefinitely, according to CalTrans officials.

CalTrans had planned to reopen the highway by Thursday night but now says it will remain shut down until further notice.

Highway 101 – Closed from the junction of Hwy 126 in Ventura to south of Milpas Street in Santa Barbara.
All vehicles going northbound on Hwy 101 must exit at or before Hwy 150 (Casitas Pass). No vehicles will be allowed to travel north of Carpinteria on Hwy 101.
Use I-5 as an alternate route.

On the CHP website for the Ventura division, which includes Santa Barbara, there are *18* roads listed as closed.

On another note, I am seeing predictions by meteorologists for an atmospheric river to be coming to the state on the 19th or 20th of this month. Keep an eye on your surroundings and escape plans, if roads close in your area.

  1. Kate — I heard there is another slide on Hwy 1 in Big Sur since this latest storm. Can you confirm this and if there was one, where exactly is it? Thanks for all your good postings, by the way! You are our link to our beloved Big Sur! Used to live in Pacific Grove; fond memories of that whole part of CA. Now in San Diego.

Thinking of all the people in the Ventura-Montecito area with their mudslides. It’s a true disaster.
