Storm and Road Conditions, 3/21/18

7:45 am – This is both odd and confusing, but if CT moved closure from Salmon Creek to Ragged Point, something happened down south. Nothing noted to the north, so ??? Rain continues, and due to increase later. Hope to take 1 north this am around 9, so will report  back with what I find out.

7:41 AM 1 [1] SR1 CLOSED AT RAGGED POINT DUE TO A SLIDE,UNK DURATION FOR CLOSURE

This from Susana Cruz, CT PIO:

”Status: New
Location: District 5, SR 1, San Luis Obispo
Description: Due to rocks falling onto the roadway
Impact: Route closed at Ragged Point
Estimated Time of Reopening: Unknown”

Also, Santa Rosa Creek Rd. in Cambria closed last night near 46 by a 100’ wide, 2’ deep slide. Unknown eta for clearance.

ROAD CLOSURE: “SR-1 is closed at Ragged Point due to a mud slide that is blocking the roadway. Traffic can get as far as Ragged Point, but cannot proceed north any further. Currently we do not have a known time when that slide will be cleared. Please contact Cal-Trans for further.”

  2. They have been moving the closure to Ragged during bad weather I presume because of falling rocks and the construction crews needing more of the road. May not be a slide but just precautionary.

  3. Whenever it rains, small rocks spill constantly onto road at viaduct North of wide dirt pullout, just North of Ragged Point. There’s no way to keep it clear and every now and then larger rocks fall, too.
