TID is the Tourist Improvement District tax which is collected by the cities and the counties and given to MCCVB to market the area for tourism. This dovetails with what I posted yesterday. You will recall that MCCVB gets a significant or major part of their financing for marketing our area from the various TIDs. There are 3 “zones” with differing pricing. There is no description of which zones are for what areas, or how those determinations are made. Two hearings, both at 7 pm at the City of Monterey Council Chambers, the first on September 18th and the second at which the tax will be imposed on October 16th.
But Kate…they ARE NOT IMPROVING THE TOURISTS! I have seen no evidence that they are any less clueless etc… Hope this finds you well. Babe and I are spending the week in Alpine County & I do my SIERRA SEVA daily as I pick up broken glass, cans, butts etc…but nothing to compare w/ our part of the world…

Nice one, Howard, and so true!

The SF Chronicle devoted its Travel section (separate 14-page insert) on Sunday, September 9, 2018, to “Monterey County.” I wish I could figure out how to send the link to the entire section, so you could see it reproduced in its 14-page “glory.” Here however is the link to several of the articles :

Wow, sounds like a massive campaign to get lodging businesses to write letters of protest, since over 50% are needed to stall this measure. $4,442,000 in just the first year!! Surely that money could go to better purposes – as you’ve written – infrastructure (toilets and their care for one), enforcement of non-trespassing areas, on and on. Good luck!
(I wonder how much Santa Cruz takes in – a proposed increase in TOT likely on the upcoming ballot. Have to do some homework.)
Oh, this is huge. I am reading the Destination Management Plan by MCCVB for 2019-2014

Mary, the link posted is giving my browser a “connection is not secure” alert so, I’ll stear clear of that place- can the story be scanned onto this forum?
BSK, correction: – is this a past or future plan you’re reading? steer ; )
I will be posting more about this in the coming days. I am reading and reviewing the Draft Management Plan that MCCVB is proposing for 2019-2024 under this TID, and am writing all the relevant parties for input. I will send you a link privately, as it is 40 pages.

BSK, Do you usually post plans of this sort on your side panel sections? OK, I’ll pass on grinding hard the 40 pages, I’ll let that monster be disected by others, TY. Thanks for deciphering it all.
No, I do not. I usually blog about them, and one can use the search function to locate them, if necessary after reading them.
