• I read that you can still leave your shelter for recreational activities as defined.

  iii. To engage in outdoor recreation activity, including, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, bicycling, and running, in compliance with Social Distancing Requirements and with the following limitations:

  I. Outdoor recreation activity at parks, beaches, and other open spaces must be in conformance with any restrictions on access and use established by the Health Officer, a government agency, or other entity that manages such area, to reduce crowding and risk of transmission ofCOVID-19. Such restrictions may include, but are not limited to, restricting the number of entrants, closing the area to vehicular access and parking, or closure to all public access;

  2. Use of recreational areas with high-touch equipment or that encourage gathering, including, but not limited to, playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment, picnic areas, dog parks, and barbecue areas, is prohibited outside of residences, and all such areas shall be closed to public access including by signage and, as appropriate, by physical barriers;

  3. Use of shared facilities for recreational activities outside of residences, including, but not limited to, golf courses, tennis and pickle ball courts, rock parks, climbing walls, pools, spas, saunas, shooting and archery ranges, gyms, disc golf, team sports fields and basketball courts is prohibited and those areas must be closed for recreational purposes, including by signage and, as appropriate, by physical barriers. Such facilities may be repurposed during the emergency to provide essential services needed to address the COVID-19 pandemic; and

• “I encourage people to try and get physical activity in your neighborhoods,” Moreno said, but pointed out, “The new order does not prevent people from driving to get physical activity.”

  • People are abusing it and causing problems, so it is only a matter of time before the order will prevent people from driving to outdoor activities.

• The abuse is evident at Sand Dollar. Cars parked bumper to bumper both sides of Hwy 1. Sand Dollar parking lot and bathrooms are locked. No entry allowed signs are posted on both gates at PV School, but folks walk around gate, poop and pee by bushes near gate on school property. Hope sherriffs show up to enforce. We have 2 immune compromised school residents/staff who use those gates, others who live with immune compromised partners. Who should we notify for enforcement? More people there today than any previous weekend!

• I have seen a huge increase of surfers from Santa Cruz, SLO, So Cal, etc coming to Big Sur. Many beaches around the state are closing and many people have told me that surf spots all over California have been more crowded than they have ever been. Please don’t be selfish and stay home or at least in your own County. Don’t bring the virus to Big Sur for your “non essential” surf/recreation trip!

  • Thank you, Anti-Virus. Many, Many, Many of those out-of-area/county surfers are staying up on Plaskett then they go down to Sand Dollar all day.

• Evidence from the 1918 Flu Pandemic in the U.S we find that cities that intervened earlier and more aggressively do not perform worse and, if anything, grow faster after the pandemic is over. Our findings thus indicate that NPIs not only lower mortality; they also mitigate the adverse economic consequences of a pandemic.
