Here are the campers who were camped where fire started. You can see their campfire. They were both naked when B drove by this am.

11:45 am — This is one heck of a lot of equipment being sent. Taking no chances!!! Plus, we have air attack and tanker. But in addition to all this, FHL just sent a water tender an a brush rig, and Big Sur Fire, and tons of Cal Fire are heading south on Highway One. I feel my place is more than well protected!!

11:30 am — LP just advised that AA and T75 are enroute to fire on the LP in Monterey District. Also informed it was a vehicle accident. Unfortunately, I am not home, but in Monterey. I may have to drive back.

11 am — About a mile and a 1/2 mile below my gate. Big Sur Fire on way 3-5 acres PV Station as well as Nacimiento Station on way. Texted B and asked him to get home. I am in contact with Kinnick and USFS, so I am fine.

  1. Damn campers! I am a camper but only camps in designated camping sites and only when legal.
Hope it gets put out quickly. Big scare!

  2. Any Update? Can’t see any smoke from here (Deetjen’s area).

  3. Too bad no license plate visible- then taxpayers wouldn’t have to pay for their lawlessness and carelessness!

  4. Thank you for sharing, Kate. I hope these illegal campers, if found guilty for causing this wildfire, are charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, pay extensive fines, serve time in jail, and have their names and faces shared widely with the news media and local, county, and state agencies and representatives social media (Monterey County Sheriff’s Dept., Supervisor Chris Lopez, Los Padres National Forest, CA State Parks, California Highway Patrol, Congressman Jimmy Panetta, etc.)

  5. old sub chaser/
water tanker flew over my house in Santa Cruz, headed south at 7PM Wednesday.

  6. Susan from KSCO here. The time now is 10:17 a.m. on 06-04-20. Can anyone tell me whether the fire off Plaskett Ridge Road (that began yesterday) is still burning (wild), or is partially or fully contained? If you want to call me with updates, the business line phone number at KSCO is: (831) 475-1080.
I’m wishing all of you a safe and healthy summer/fire season….

  7. Why didn’t they tell them that is was illegal when they drove by? I dont get it? Is it legal to camp now? This could have gone SO wrong 🙁

  8. Who is “they” who should have told them it is illegal? The only person to see these illegal campers (the road is closed, so yes, they were camping illegally) was my son on his way to work, and they were off the road in a place they had no business being if the road HAD been open. He did take photos of them and their car with a telephoto. They (a couple) were naked, so the fire was not for warmth. He couldn’t get the license plate, as it was hidden. The USFS is investigating the cause of the fire, and we have offered them our photos.

  9. Just drove home past the fire and it is partially contained, at least, and LPF Hotshots and Ventura are babysitting it to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere.,
