Small veg fire on OCR

11:30 am from Big Sur Fire: “

UPDATE

Big Sur Fire and CAL FIRE Responded to a 1 acre vegetation fire 3 miles up the south end of Old Coast Road near Molera. Crews quickly contained the fire. The size of the fire was limited by a quick response and favorable weather conditions. When crews arrived they isolated a down power line around the area for life safety. Our firefighters and engines are now back in quarters. CAL FIRE crews will continue to monitor the fire for the duration.

Thank you everyone for your support!”

According to a source, it is about 1 and 1/2 miles up Old Coast Road and only about 1/4 acre in size. Let’s hope JJ Hill and Big Sur Fire can stomp it out quickly. May have been a downed power line, but not sure yet.

From Big Sur Fire: “Big Sur Fire is responding to a small vegetation fire on private property near the north end of Old Coast Road. We will update as soon as we can but we are primarily focused on our response to the fire. Thank you everyone for your support!”

Appointed appellate counsel for indigent defendants (retired.) I have lived in Big Sur since 1984, first on the north coast, and on the South Coast since 1989.

  • We heard sirens about 7:30 up here on Garrapatos Road. May have been Mid Coast Fire headed out.
We need a better emergency alert system here - Thanks to Kate, but the County has not notified us about this.

  • If Big Sur Fire is saying it's on the North end of Old Coast I'm pretty sure that means it's more toward Bixby. Andrew Molera is clearly on the South end so I'm quite confused.
