HIGHWAY 1 CLOSED SOUTH OF JULIA PFEIFFER BURNS STATE PARK

DUE TO SLIDE

MONTEREY COUNTY – A rockslide across both lanes of traffic has closed Highway 1 on the Big Sur coast at Post Mile 35, less than a mile south of Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and two miles north of the Esalen Institute.

Caltrans maintenance crews are on the scene this morning and there is no estimated time for reopening.

An update will follow after crews assess the roadway.
