Crazy fact: as of this very moment, and as it has been since the slide occurred, Google Maps is still showing that the route from Cambria to Big Sur (which we are going to drive today) is on Highway 1, with no mention of the slide! I've pinged GM 3 times since Monday telling them of the closure, but so far no change. Yikes. No wonder Cambria is full, all the folks who thought they could drive through are stuck here (not a bad place to be stuck though).
Never trust your phone or rely on Google Maps. They are always behind the 8 ball!! BS Kate has the most up to date information of anyone.
Apple Maps on the iPhone shows the route from Cambria to Big Sur via 101 up the Salinas Valley. Also shows the blockage on Hwy 1, road closed symbol just north of the Elephant Seal pullout.
