FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DELINEATORS INSTALLED ON HIGHWAY 1 NEAR BIXBY BRIDGE

TO PROMOTE PARKING SAFETY

MONTEREY COUNTY – Travelers on Highway 1 at the southbound approach to the Bixby Bridge will encounter flexible delineators near the shoulder of the road placed there to encourage single file parallel parking at this popular viewpoint.

Double parking, partial parking in the roadway, backing up into oncoming traffic, and other unsafe driving behaviors at this location, have previously created multiple conflict points for those travelling through on both the southbound and northbound lanes.

These flexible delineators are intended to reduce these conflict points and help maintain the flow of traffic through the area.

Caltrans anticipates positive results from the installation of these flexible delineators and will continue to assess parking issues at the Bixby Bridge in the coming months.

Road information and updates can also be found on Caltrans District 5 Social Media platforms: Twitter at: @CaltransD5, Facebook at: Caltrans Central Coast (District 5) and Instagram at: Caltrans_D5.

  • Both laugh out loud funny (Jean's remark) and very sad (noted too in Jean's remark). I will end my comment here while I try to wrap my mind around the Scylla and Charybdis flexible delineator concept.

  • The CABS email had a picture. Vertical white "bollards" like the orange ones used to separate lanes in construction sites.

  • Kate,
Don't see how this will solve the problem. I pretty much agree with the other comments. Good luck!!!

  • KSBW also reported LIVE on these delineators Friday afternoon. And just 2 days after they had been installed, 3 maybe 4 of these delineators have been broken off and are laying around now making them a trash problem as well as a hazard for the visitors not paying attention to where they're walking!

  • "OUR DEFLEX FLEXIBLE PARKING LOT DELINEATOR WITHSTANDS OVER 200 IMPACTS"... xc at bixby bridge i guess
    oh my goodness
personally, i'm going with catapult idea
