Road and lane closures on Highway 1 in Big Sur, next week

ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES SCHEDULED FOR April 16 – April 22

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, April 16 through Saturday, April 22 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

ALERT:

 HIGHWAY 1 REPAIRS IN BIG SUR SET FOR SATURDAY TO RESULT IN DELAYS 

 Travelers will encounter one-way traffic control with half hour delays from 7 am to 5 pm on Saturday April 15, from just north of Coast Ridge Road at Post Mile 44.59, to south of the Big Sur Bakery at PM 45.23 due to emergency repair work. Despite this emergency repair work, Highway 1 remains open with full access to all coastal businesses for 50 miles from Monterey to the Big Creek Vista area.

Highway 1: Ragged Point Viaduct – Big Creek Vista Point: Long – Term 
There will be full closure of northbound and southbound Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo County between Ragged Point Viaduct and Big Creek Vista Point due to slide removal work. .

Highway 1: Garrapata Creek Bridge: Long – Term
One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 at Garrapata Creek Bridge for bridge and temporary signal work.

Highway 1: Nepenthe (South Entrance) – Ventana Entrance: Long – Term
One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the entrances for Nepenthe and Ventana for bridge and temporary signal work.

Highway 1: Little Sur River Bridge – Garrapata State Park: April 17 – April 21
One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the Little Sur River Bridge and Garrapata State Park for emergency repair work from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

  • So if I understand right, going south from Carmel we can go all the way to Ragged Point. Julia Pfeiffer park is open, but Pfeiffer Beach is still closed because the access road is closed?
