Camera Installed to monitor land slide in Arroyo Seco

The County of Monterey along with CALFire and state geologists are continuing to monitor a landslide in Arroyo Seco that was discovered last month.

As part of that monitoring, an AlertCA camera station has been installed by the California Department of Emergency Services to monitor the hillside where the slide occurred. Although the landslide has stopped moving at this time, it can continue moving. The camera provides a live online feed to allow continuous monitoring. The public can see the feed too on the Alert California camera webpage:

ALERTCalifornia – Piney Creek 2

The landslide is located roughly near the intersection of Arroyo Seco Road and Carmel Valley Road. Last month, geologists placed stakes in the slide area and drone footage allowed officials to get a full look at the mountain area.

Arroyo Seco Road also experienced storm damaged during the recent winter storms at other nearby locations. Arroyo Seco Road at Carmel Valley Road remains closed to the public until repairs can be made on the section west of Carmel Valley Road. County of Monterey Public Works is in the process of designing and preparing for roadway repairs which could begin as early as June.
