Although not state highway one related, you are pretty lucky to have availability of the Stanford VA Hospital. Here in SLO County us vets are sent to Long Beach and they have a certain, let's say: -- rep according to RN's.
I participated in a study at NIH and the clinic walls were covered in beautiful art on loan from various museums. It made the environment during a tough experience soothing and interesting. Beauty is nourishment for the soul.
The VA Hospital has photos of Big Sur scattered throughout. It is very nice.
