Here is a news clipping Tzila sent me re the slides. There are a whole lot more clippings that I may or may not publish.
Keith Vandervere posted Jeff Norman’s journals of rain totals, observations and radio news in March of 1983 here: https://xasauantoday.com/2011/03/23/remembering-the-1983-big-sur-slides/ It is a fun little read.

Thanks so much, Kate. Ah, the memories of slides. Stranded Ventana Inn guests sipped champagne in hot tubs before being helicoptered out. My story was the front-page banner of The Examiner in S.F. -- Alex Hulanicki
Thank you Jeff, sure do miss you!! Thank you for sharing so much history!!
I was in New Zealand from Feb 1983 till June 1983. My sister sent me many of these very Herald clippings. I heard in March 83 it rained 40 inches in 30 days. As I recall there was a line of traffic waiting for the coast road at Bixby Bridge to finally open after months of no access. I think there was a ribbon cutting with Kenny and Pat present. What a winter that was!
They called it the March Miracle, but there was so much damage around the state. A stretch of the Pismo pier collapsed. They never rebuilt it out as far as it used to go. My late husband got trapped by flood waters at his work site and his car suffered water damage. We needed the water, but not good when you get a winter's worth of rain within 30 days time.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane
