Limekiln State Park open for Day Use

BIG SUR – California State Parks [yesterday] announced that Limekiln State Park is now open to the public for day use. The park has been closed since the landslide at Paul’s Slide on Jan. 14, 2023, due to safety concerns, including damaged trails and limited beach access. The park is again accessible to visitors from 8 a.m. to sunset daily, for day use only.

Limekiln State Park features breathtaking views of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the rugged Big Sur coastline. Majestic redwoods are in close proximity to the Limekiln beach, which allows visitors to experience two iconic California habitats within an easy walk.

Key information for visitors:

• Limekiln Trail to the Pitkins Curve Trail and ocean view overlook is open. 
• Hare Creek and Falls Trail remain closed. 
• Drivers can only enter Limekiln State Park from the south (Cambria/San Simeon area) via Highway 1. 
• Highway 1 is closed approximately 4.4 miles north of the park. 
• Highway 1 remains closed to all drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to the north of Limekiln State Park due to an additional landslide (Regents Slide), which       currently has no estimated date for reopening.

Park fee details:

• Day-use fees are cash only.
• $10 per vehicle; Allows access to other California State Parks until closing on the day of purchase. Closing times vary by park.
• Senior discount: Age 62 or older, $1 off, except vehicles over nine passenger capacity.
• Disabled Discount Pass Holders: $5 
• Distinguished Veterans Pass Holders: No charge 
• Golden Bear Pass Holders: No charge
• Limited Use Golden Bear Pass Holders: No charge during off-season (Labor Day through Memorial Day)
• State Parks Pass holders must present a pass at the kiosk upon entry to the park. Most State Park passes can be purchased at the Monterey District office       at 2211 Garden Road, Monterey, CA 93940. Please visit the pass sales locations webpage to find Monterey District pass sales offices.
