Thank you for your service, Kate
You are welcome, Nadine.
thank you, all veterans, for your service, our gratitude is beyond expression....
I honor my uncle, William Granville Sharpe, who died 18 March, 1944, age 21. He went down in a plane and his remains were never recovered. His name is on the plaque in Devendorf Park. He was a bright, creative person who carved beautiful sculptures, made tables from redwood, drew funny cartoons, and wrote detailed essays such as you seldom see during his high school years.
Although my brother and I never met him, we have mourned his loss. We hoped for many years that he would resurface in Germany somewhere.
However, the war overall accomplished one great thing; which was to stop the murder of so many of the Jewish people. I believe in the humanity of all people. (in this day and age, I must also say, that I abhor the killing of so many civilians in Palestine).
My cousin twice removed was a proud Marine in WW2.
I've been shot at once in my life, but not during my military service. Security Service and Intelligence. Overseas during one Red Alert (Cuban Missile Crisis); Stateside when President Kennedy was assassinated. Classified, hence invisible and indivisible.
Oops! WOMAN Marine!!!!
Our veterans have given their life to something bigger than themselves. My deepest gratitude and appreciation to all💜
Thank you for your service Kate.
Yes. I thank her for that and being an exceptional human being.
Always a big THANK YOU to Kate! So much appreciation for many things that might go unrecognized.
My mothers father served his entire adult life per US Army..cavalry, all over the globe.. much of it enforcing sanctions upon Native Tribes of Turtle Island.. My mother, served war vets at both Oath military hospitals as well as at Corona Ca doing the same. My dad meant her there..in bed, hows that for assuring potential romantic adventures! Trouble was he arrived to Corona incapacitated from his war plane crash into the Pacific off the Philippine Islands. For 2 years cased inside a full body cast. Frim photos I see he was good looking yet mom falling in love with him must of involved some devine intervention. Can one have sex via a urinary devise? Maybe it was all about the eyes!. For me ..I wasn't in the least patriotic !.in fact far from it!.. I was more inclined to feel more confident in Soviet Russia then President Johnson , Reagan or Kennedy combined,.& fortunately my birthday exempted me from the draft and besides that, I was positively clear I held no hatred for the Vietnamese!!So I rented a 90 dollar apt in Carmel, learned how to make metal sculpture & to learn surfing instead !Seemed like an honorary move on my part.
