Remember this announcement just two days ago? https://bigsurkate.blog/2025/07/31/no-campfires-on-south-coast-of-big-sur-warns-monterey-county/
This was taken last night by one of the members of the Big Sur South Coast Fire Foundation on a weekend patrol.
Big Sur South Coast Fire Foundation is a non-profit run entirely by volunteers, trying to keep our back country safe from the clueless (those not familiar with back country camping) or those who see the signs but think they don’t apply to them. If you want to support Big Sur South Coast Fire Patrol, one can donate here: https://www.bsscff.org/

Is there a way to report such people so that they get fined?
Yes. If they don’t cooperate, the patrols have a mini Starlink to contact LPNF LEO on his cell phone.
They never went thru a fire...
Cryptically dramatic photo. Is this the perpetrator, half-way through cooking, putting out the fire him/her self, following the order of the patrol/photographer?
Darn. Sad. I was up and down the buckeye trail and campground on July 26-27 and met two parties who each used a propane mini stove despite the signs at the trailhead. I almost said something to them like “this place is a tinderbox! What are you thinking?!” But I did not. If they lit a campfire, I would have.
So frustrating!
my believe? Americans are by far the most egotistical, self serving, ignorant, uncaring towards nature-wildness- low lifers of the world. Its bordering upon criminally insane.
even locals..look at the tinder boxes straddling most of Palo canyon..for years abandoned autos, rusting a part, parked over high weeds, each of them certainly containing gasoline, huge stacks of former utility line poles, one home itself a virtual tinder box with a leaning half ass wood stove chimney, along with 2-3 house trailers..a virtual nightmare..with no room to battle a fire, and the canyons fire chief drives by it every day..go figure!
