I’ve been up there four times since the highway re-opened and am stunned by the high intensity impact of the Dolan fire. I’ve lost count…. ‘85, ‘94, ‘99, ‘08 previous fires on NF road? This far exceeds those, especially near the summit. Standing dead trees will be falling for the next 20 years.
Amazing.
It’s a stark contrast to see the greenery of new growth and the skeletons of the trees.
I know the locals carry chainsaws in their vehicles but the unsuspecting tourist generally do not & may find themselves trapped on the wrong side of a downed tree. Another risk when entering the backcountry.
Which "standing dead trees" should be removed and which should be kept and why?
