Effective Wednesday, September 2, at 7:00 PM, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office plans to downgrade several evacuation orders to warnings and conclude the shelter-in-place directives previously issued on August 27, 2026, in response to the Timber Fire. The northern closure of Highway 1 (MM 56.0 to MM 45.0) is anticipated to be lifted at 7:00 PM.
