Storm Watch, 1/12/23

This is a photo of the Salinas River in the 1995 floods. It might help those of you having trouble envisioning how the bridges and low lying areas might be affected tonight and through the weekend, depending on how much rain we get.

10:30 am – From Wendy Root Askew, Board of Supervisors just now: “

Newest NOAA update from this morning. Showing that the Salinas River enters flood stage at Spreckles Thursday at about 9pm. However the max flow continues to trend down which will reduce extent of flooding.

Our County Office of Emergency Services team is reviewing new data now and we will continue to provide updates as conditions continue to change.

Please remember that we are all doing our best to navigate dynamic conditions and predict the future with the intent of keeping everyone safe and allowing time to get prepared.”

Today is restock my inside firewood day, so won’t be online as much for a while this morning. Highway One is still closed per the chp website this am:

MCSO is warning of the Salinas River flooding probability by about noon today and continuing thru Sunday, with a strong possibility of making the Monterey Peninsula an island. MCSO suggests you follow them on social media (FB and twitter) for updates throughout the day. The evacuation map is below.
