Granite Bridge Damage

A panel truck slammed into Granite Creek bridge this morning before flipping over.  Driver is fine…but the bridge is not.  A large section of the ocean-side railing is gone and the rest badly damaged. There will probably be one-way traffic for a while…..

  • The poor highway has a hard time staying fully open. I know of no other highway that gets so beat up. Sad.

  • Yes, so sad to see. But the great news is that this 90+ year old bridge rail did exactly what it was built to do, it prevented a vehicle and its passengers from going over the side and being seriously hurt or killed ... I believe Caltrans should "Replace in Kind" all the historical arched bridge rails within the Big Sur Land Use Plan Area ...

  • I don’t know all the bridge names down here. I looked up Granite Creek on a CalTrans map to see where the newly damaged bridge is located. The site said Granite Creek is in Santa Cruz county? The map says there is a Granite Canyon down thisaway, approximately 6 miles south of Carmel?
