Fourth of July visitors reminded that fireworks
are always prohibited on Los Padres National Forest
SOLVANG, Calif. – Los Padres National Forest officials are reminding Fourth of July visitors that the possession or use of fireworks—including the “safe and sane” variety—is always prohibited in the Forest. This year-round prohibition will be strictly enforced throughout the holiday weekend.
The Forest asks that all visitors take the appropriate precautions to prevent accidental wildfires:
Under a current Forest Order, campfires are prohibited outside of developed campgrounds and can result in a fine of $5,000 and/or six months in jail. In addition, anyone causing a wildfire is potentially liable for the cost of suppressing the fire.
Due to the alarming rise in illegal campfires associated with dispersed camping across national forests in California, visitors are encouraged to report any signs of dispersed campfires to the nearest Forest Service Officer or Ranger Station. To report a fire or other emergency, call 911.
As always, the Los Padres National Forest reminds the public to plan ahead before visiting their local national forest and to recreate responsibly, including packing out your trash, using good social distancing in crowded areas, and only parking in designated areas.
Additionally, excellent tools and resources are available on the Recreate Responsibly website.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our national forests safe and healthy for everyone’s use.

It's about time!!! Wishing they'd ban campfires as well.
Please let us have a safe 4th!~
Bread and circuses! No fireworks at any time.
The very thought of fireworks in the forest is insane. Its so disappointing that this is something that has to be spelled out and enforced. Then again, we have warnings on coffee cups that coffee is hot, and drug commercials that tell us not to take the drug if we are allergic to it. Geeez.
And its also illegal to set off any Fireworks within all parts of the unincorporated Monterey County ... which includes all of Big Sur, Carmel Valley, the Carmel Highlands and many parts of Carmel, Arroyo Seco, Prunedale, and many parts of the Salinas Valley to name but a few. Be Safe!!
