Reminder re campfires

This was not from the Los Padres National Forest, but from Gila National Forest in New Mexico. “Please don’t bury your campfire. Make sure it is cold to the touch before you leave. Burying keeps the heat inside. Firefighters responded 2 days in a row to this area for unextinguished fires. Too hot to hold, too hot to leave!”

MAKE SURE YOURS IS COLD TO THE TOUCH before you leave it.

  • Burying, or banking, a fire is a great way to keep the coals alive for a quick start in the morning – but it is of course a very dangerous practice if you vacate the campsite.

  • Thank you!
This is critically important information for all of us, CA, & all Western State's.

  • Burying, or banking, a fire is a 2 Million year old practice that should never be used by competent knowledgable prepared humans, if you find yourself in a survival situation in 2022 that requires this ancient practice you should not be in command and control of fire as you are a danger to yourself and others.

Humans have been to the moon and to the deepest part of the ocean we know how to keep warm without fire, When humans eat around 2,000 calories, they generate between 300 and 400 BTUs per hour, clothing existed 1 Million years before fire, insulate and survive.
