Visit Big Sur Responsibly

There is an excellent video that Two Feather Productions shot in 2020 that demonstrates well the need to visit this fragile area responsibly. It is a beautifully shot video with data collection on the South Coast. Don’t think I can embed it as I can with a you tube video, but I know I can post a link. I urge you to watch it.

This was supposed to post this morning, but it did not. Not sure why as I was quite busy. But now, here it is.

  1. I so appreciate this video for its showing the damage that is being done to a sacred space. Thank you.

  2. Thank you for sending this. Makes me sad that people can’t respect this magical place .

  3. The video shows that closing the road access stopped the abuse but doesn’t solve the problem, the source of the problem is behavior and the roads are just enabling the behavior, many places are now nurturing behavior by conceiving the streets as modular, dynamic and flexible: Lanes would be combined and reconfigured to accommodate various modes and uses, following the changing demand throughout the seasons, the week and the day.

It would be responsible to consider dynamic use as one of the options for the main road access through Big Sur, especially since Hwy1 through big sur has been at design capacity since 1977 and during peak-use which is much of the year it is basically a car sewer.

  4. Yes perfectly pbrased- CAR SEWER
likewise similarly world wise..yet its not the cars fault. If mire communities strived to improve their own towns, their own back yards, they’re surrounding open spaces, likely more would dig remaining home, sharing one another open heatedly..instead of packing cars & traffic lanes, then cafe’s, streams & camp grounds.
