Current situation:Fire Size 4245 acres. Firefighters were engaged overnight on the south end of the fire working down Partington Ridge toward Highway 1 to tie handline into completed dozer line to cut off the fire’s south/southeastern spread.
Engines assigned behind structures west of Highway 1 remained in place overnight to ensure that they were not impacted by fire. Very little fire activity was observed as humidity rose to almost 90% under the heavy marine layer. Operations today will focus on the same priorities, engaging direct line construction where possible to cut the fire off from impacting structures.
On the northern side of the fire, night shift crews completed line all the way down to Big Sur River from the Coast Ridge Road to inhibit northward spread.
The fire continued to burn actively above the marine layer overnight. Day shift crews are working actively to open old fire lines as contingency as well as finding safe and effective places to put new lines as close as possible to the active fire edge.
Weather: The system that brought showers and thunderstorms into the area has moved to the east and the heavy marine layer is expected to dominate for the next few days. A warming, drying trend is anticipated into the weekend.

Road closures:
Highway 1 remains closed for public and firefighter safety. The northern closure is at mile marker 45.1 near the Big Sur Bakery, and the southern closure is near mile marker 37 at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.
