EIGHT-MILE STRETCH OF HIGHWAY 1 IN BIG SUR TO CLOSE
IN SUPPORT OF TIMBER FIRE OPERATIONS
MONTEREY COUNTY – As of 1 pm Thursday, August 27, an eight-mile stretch of Highway 1 will be closed to support Timber Fire emergency response.
As the Timber Fire emergency response remains active, Highway 1 will close from approximately 0.5 miles south of Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn at Post Mile 42.6 to near Andrew Molera State Park at Post Mile 50 to facilitate firefighting and evacuation operations.
Electronic message boards will alert travelers in advance of the closure. Avoid any unnecessary travel through the area. Drivers should use US 101 as an alternate route. We want to thank the community and the public for their patience while we continue to support the emergency response of the Timber Fire in Big Sur.

New as in it is headed north, it reached the dogvine, so it is on the north side now. It has been mapped at 40 acres, All fixed wing aircraft have gone for the night, but night flying helicopters have been ordered, however not sure what they will be able to do.
Ashton Harris’s phone number forwards to PIO Kevin Drabinski’s number, which has a stale voicemail on it announcing that he’s on vacation until August 3rd. I was reaching out to let folks know the impact of a hard closure at Molera. Is Andrew our USPS savior going to once again be humping mail to impacted customers? Could there at least be a checkpoint so locals can get their mail ay the P.O.? Boy I get grouchy when key people can’t even keep their phone lines and voicemail up to date.
