The Monterey Ranger District of the Los Padres National Forest is officially closed until Fires are declared out

⛔️Outsiders: Don’t even think of going to Los Padres.⛔️

The Los Padres National Forest has issued Forest Order 05-07-51-26-10, effective August 29, 2026, establishing an emergency closure for the Monterey Ranger District to protect public safety during the Timber and Plaskett Fires.

This order replaces Order 05-07-51-26-08 and remains active until the fires are officially declared out.

Closed Areas:
All National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within the Monterey Ranger District Emergency Closure Area are off-limits to the public.

Exceptions:
Pfeiffer Beach and Sycamore Canyon Road remain open.

Exemptions:
Authorized personnel on official duty (emergency responders, agency officers), private land owners/residents needing access (provided no active evacuation order is in effect), and individuals holding specific Forest Service permits (FS-7700-48).

Penalties:
Violations carry fines of up to $5,000 for individuals ($10,000 for organizations), up to six months imprisonment, or both.
